Redesign

Apr 1, 2008

As you may have noticed: the site has a new look. I've gotten tired of the old design, its useless features and crappy code.

This new design has a reduction of 40% lines of HTML code and uses the lightweight mootools javascript framework, instead of the heavier Protoype, combined with script.aculo.us, framework. Still tweaking the looks. If you have any comments on the new layout please leave them behind.

Ow yeah I did not pay too much attention to IE6 and older. With success: no nervous breakdown this time.

Don't care 'bout ie6, next year (almost) no one will remember it ever existed due to FF3 and IE8 releases + Vista virus-like spreading (xp no longer produced). I am a kind of designer that used to don't give a damn bout compatibility in times of IE4/5 domination, later on i turned into a standards-maniac which i still am, however, while working on the portal i told you so many times about (2 months to go and and please God let it happen for real this time) it turned out after inplementing all features (mootools scripts) that ie6 simply turned everything into PUZZLES - this is how it looks like, really. Layout without mootools seemed pretty easy to fix, it was almost compatibile, but adding mootools torn it into pieces. That's why i joined the lately popular current of the ie6-boycott among developers. In fact, that's an aware choice of ignoring circa 15 thousands visitors of the current vortal version, but well.. We look into the future and ie6 has no none, and it only appears to be a limitation. Informational campaign + a "how do i upgrade my browser for idiots" splash screen will do the trick for some of them, we hope. ;-)

Sorry for such a long comment, i forgot it's not my blog (which i don't have), lol.

My first impression was: the last one looked better (as far as i remember it). I mean the general impression - comments design looks better now. I guess it was more alive - it's too black and white now, greay actually. I liked that blue-black gradient and some orange on the top you had last time. And why a .gif for the backround is your choice? A 24-bit .png would not only be W3C valid, but also the gradient would be reeeeally smooooth :)

These are my thoughts about the redesign. Cheers

Thanks for the comments.

We should all implement a code which displays a blank page for IE6 users Face: Laughing. God save the developers.

You are totally right about the colors; I thought the icons would bring some more color into the design. But as I stated, It's still being tweaking so I shall look if the blue-orange twist can be brought back into this design.

Thanks for the tip about the png. Never really paid attention to W3C standards on that matter.

And h-a-r-v, if you'd like, you could blog here. You seem to write interesting pieces.

Heh, thanks :) But I've never been into bloging really. I just don't feel a need to and i always do so (too) many things simulateously that i probably wouldn't have time for it.. Your cool calendar brought me here, so here i am, just trying to help our common business :)

I can see you're into adobe air n' stuff. Who knows, maybe one day it's gonna be you i'll hire to biuld an application for my portal :) I surely will look for someone. But that ain't gonna happen this year for sure - planned developement first.

Just as you I'm into too much. If I think if something is nice to blog about I try to write a piece.
At the moment I'm doing my internship, so that means working 40 hours a week.
(And I did not touch AIR yet Face: Sad, would very much like to Face: Grin)

Hello,

I am just wondering if there is a way to implement a callback function in vlaCalendar? I would like to catch date value after it is picked.

Thanks
